Amazon.com Product Description
Stop guessing at distances while hunting or building with the Nikon ProStaff 550 laser rangefinder. Offering absolute precision in the palm of your hand, the ProStaff 550 employs Nikon's advanced Tru-Target ranging system, which lets users prioritize smaller and harder-to-range lone targets at the push of a button. As a result, it's easier than ever to range objects as small as fence posts, or get an instant read on that lone buck in the meadow. The unit also relies on Nikon's advanced ID technology to compensate for various incline or decline shooting angles--up to an incredible plus-or-minus 89 degrees (nearly vertical up or down). And thanks to Nikon's digital measurement processor, you'll enjoy speedy 1/2-yard accuracy within 99.5 yards, and 1-yard accuracy from 100 to 550 yards. On the other end of the spectrum, the unit can range as close as 11 yards, so you aren't restricted to long-distance targets only.

Add in such features as 6x multicoated optics, an eyeglass-friendly 18mm of eye relief, a continuous measurement mode, 100-percent waterproof and fogproof construction; and a maximum measurement of 733 yards and you have a comfortable, powerful range finder that leaves its competitors in the dust.

5 out of 5 stars Great Find   August 25, 2010

The Nikon Prostaff 550 Laser Rangefinder was bought as a gift for my husband. He now takes it everywhere, especially when we take it target shooting. The Rangefinder works just as the company spics state, also very easy to operate. The price was also perfect for his first purchase of a rangefinder

5 out of 5 stars Does the Job   August 25, 2010

The Nikon ProStaff 550 is exactly what I wanted and what I got. I wanted a reliable point and shoot laser Range Finder. Just point at an object press the button and it tells you how far away it is within a tenth of a yard. It does not have all the bells and whistles like the more expensive ARC mode, bow mode, this mode, that mode, Bushnell has. Bushnell makes fine optics but so does this model rangefinder at almost half the cost from Amazon.com. The Range I have used it for is 17 yards to 500 Yards. Very Pleased

2 out of 5 stars not for golf   July 23, 2010

I bought this item for golf. It`s not as good as the nikon Calaway range finder.
Can`t seem to catch the flag on holes unless I`m less than 100 yards out. I used
the Callaway brand and could catch the flags on any distant. Not very satisfied with this product at all.

bought it for my dad for xmas and had to return it. I would say this is not good for an older person but even I had trouble with it. very comfortable to use, small which is good for carrying it with you but not good when trying to use.

I rather have a different style rangefinder!!

5 out of 5 stars Good Price, Good Optics   May 10, 2010

I usually like Nikon and Zeiss optics. This may not match the $2k lens quality but they're still very clear.

Keep in mind that I'm only using if for a 100-200 yard range. Maybe if I go out West I'd use the 400+ range, but it's more likely I'd borrow the guide's rangefinder or binoculars-with-rangefinder. So, the incline/decline (iD) of the RifleHunter is overkill for me, especially if using slugs on state land and the dropoff would be more dramatic -- I still use the distance and compensate.

The 6x is good for me. An 8x would probably wobble too much (I usually have that problem with 10x binoculars anyhow) and 6x is good for 100-200yd.

I haven't tried submerging it, but I don't want to tempt fate. They did get a little wet from light rain, but no problem.
